Title | Stridhan, Stridhana |
Details | According to Hindu Law, stridhan means such property of a woman over which she has full and unrestricted ownership. She can spend the whole of it or give it away at her own pleasure by gift or will without any reference to her husband. [AIR 1985 SC 628]
Woman’s wealth; the peculiar property of a woman or wife over which, under ordinary circumstances, she has independent control, and which descends to her daughter or next of kin; her power to dispose of it during her husband’s life is sometimes subject to his will, and he has a right to use it in cases of distress or necessity; the rights of both husband and wife to this description of property depend, however, very much upon the customs that prevail in different places. Woman’s property is variously distinguished according to its sources when it is derived, or circumstances under which it is acquired as follows. [Wilson’s Glossary] |
