Malikana means ownership or ownership rights. Section 3 (The SAT Act, 1950) is clear indicator of the fact that the intention of the legislature was that malikana interest also would be acquired. [Khondker Ali Afzal vs. Province of East Pakistan (1966) 18 DLR 184]

Malikana is an allowance which is paid as compensation for giving up the proprietary right in lieu of which the proprietor ceases to have connection with the land and, therefore, although income, is not derived from the land. [Mahendra Nath Bagchi vs. Commr. Agricultural Income Tax (1950) 2 DLR 209]
